Common Core Standards Covered At Tuesday Meeting

Common Core Standards Covered At Tuesday MeetingPOTTSTOWN PA – “Addressing the New Common Core Standards” for math is the topic for discussion during the next Community Connections meeting scheduled by the Pottsgrove School District, to be held Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2012) from 7-9 p.m. in the library at Pottsgrove High School, 1345 Kauffman Rd. The meeting, which was rescheduled from Nov. 27, is free and open to the public.

The common core represents a new set of nationally adopted educational standards that all students are expected to master. The will be part of Pennsylvania’s Keystone Exams, the state’s final test of whether high school seniors are prepared to graduate, that begin in 2015. To be answered are:

  • Why new standards, how are they different?;
  • What changes are occurring in curriculum and in the classroom?; and
  • How will students, teachers, and parents be supported through the change?

Those who attend will hear how the standards are being addressed in the classroom, be invited to participate in a problem-solving lesson led by classroom teachers, learn how math review supports students through the transition to new standards.

A follow-up Community Connections meeting is scheduled Jan. 29 (2013). Its topic has not yet been announced.
