Pottsgrove Asked To Review Field Trips Reimbursement

SANATOGA PA – What will – and possibly more importantly, what will not – be reimbursed by the Pottsgrove School District for field trips and extracurricular expenses incurred by some of its clubs and sports teams is scheduled for review by the Board of School Directors’ policy committee, directors agreed Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2012).

Pottsgrove Asked To Review Field Trips ReimbursementBusiness Administrator David Nester asked the board to consider reviewing its reimbursement policy, and potentially re-write it for clarity, so that all who submit for payments “have a clear expectation of what qualifies and what won’t.”

Nester did not cite specific examples of problems or abuses, but indicated questions were recently raised regarding reimbursement issues. He said he provided directors with a spreadsheet that provided details on amounts paid so far during the current school year, and suggested they “revisit our field trip policy and make it more clearly stated.”

The current policy, found online here at the district website, defines a field trip as an excursion that affords “a first-hand educational experience not available in the typical educational setting as well, as the opportunity to become familiar with real things (and) concepts in their actual environment(s).”

The discussion is expected to be on the committee’s agenda for Jan. 22.
