Pottstown Man Charged With Police Assault At Days Inn

Pottstown Man Charged With Assault At Days InnSANATOGA PA – A 25-year-old Pottstown man faces multiple charges after he allegedly assaulted a Lower Pottsgrove police officer Monday (Feb. 11, 2013) just before 1 p.m. during a call regarding a disturbance at the Days Inn, 1600 Industrial Hwy. The officer, Matthew Meitzler, reportedly sustained minor injuries.

Shannon Hoehne has been charged in the incident with two counts of felony aggravated assault, one count each of resisting arrest and recklessly endangering another person, and related charges, according to investigating Ofc. Scott Weidenhammer.

Meitzler was the first to respond to Monday’s call, and while at the scene issued verbal commands that Weidenhammer said Hoehne “refused to obey.” Meitzler then attempted to take Hoehne into custody, but Hoehne reportedly pulled away and tried to climb a nearby staircase. Hoehne allegedly struggled with and kicked Meitzler three times during the period, Weidenhammer’s report stated.

The exact nature of the disturbance was not reported.

Preliminary arraignment for Hoehne was conducted by Magisterial District Justice Edward Kropp Sr., with bail set at $50,000. A preliminary hearing, also to be held before Kropp in his East High Street courtroom, is scheduled for next Thursday (Feb. 21).
