COLLEGEVILLE PA – Environmental studies students at Ursinus College will soon be rooting a few hundred tree and shrub plantings in upland areas of the 27-acre Hunsberger Woods on East Ninth Avenue, allowing them to demonstrate stewardship of the tract and their overall commitment to the health of the Perkiomen watershed, the college announced this week.
TreeVitalize, a public-private partnership in Pennsylvania, has approved an $8,104 grant through the Montgomery County Conservation District to fund forest enhancements and restoration in the wooded open space area that is jointly owned by the college and Collegeville Borough. Grant donors include the Conservation District, the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and AQUA.
