Ooops! Pottsgrove Learns Spreading Its News Isn’t Easy

POTTSTOWN PA – Being “first out there with the news” may be a good thing, Pottsgrove Board of School Directors’ President Scott Fulmer suggested Tuesday night (Feb. 26, 2013), but no one said it was going to be an easy thing.

Ooops! Pottsgrove Learns Spreading Its News Isn't EasyWith his comment, made as directors talked about the value of increasing Pottsgrove School District public relations efforts, Fulmer couldn’t anticipate the wrong news might go out on the board’s behalf .. but that’s what happened less than two hours later.

The district two weeks ago launched itself into the online publishing business by announcing it would distribute a digital newsletter titled “Board Notes” shortly after every directors’ meeting. It’s a summary of school board actions purposely intended to reach district residents by e-mail before they read local news media stories the next day, Superintendent Shellie Feola said at the time.

The first edition of three pages was delivered as promised Feb. 12 at 11 p.m. And, probably to the administration’s dismay, the very same edition was delivered again Tuesday night at 9:35 p.m., mistakenly substituted for the newer version. The error was caught within 20 minutes and the proper copy went out at 9:55 p.m., accompanied by a brief apology.
