Witnesses Capture Pottstown Man In Redner’s Incident

Witnesses Capture Pottstown Man In Redner's IncidentSANATOGA PA – Several shoppers at the Redner’s Warehouse Market in Lower Pottsgrove, 1300 N. Charlotte St., came to the rescue Saturday afternoon (March 2, 2013) of two women who were allegedly assaulted by a 30-year-old Pottstown man as they were leaving the store.

John Deichman, of the 400 block of Roland Avenue, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and related charges, township police Ofc. Christopher Dipiano reported. Because Deichman was on probation, he was detained in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Eagleville PA.

When DiPiano arrived at about 2:12 p.m. at the store, responding to calls regarding a fight, he discovered a group of customers and bystanders had already intervened and subdued Deichman after the women were injured. Both women required medical treatment at the scene, and later in a hospital, police said.

The women said they were walking out of Redner’s when Deichman approached them. He believed they were talking to him, the women said. When told they were not, Deichman reportedly punched one of the women in the face, and then punched the second as she tried to help her colleague. Deichman then struck the first woman again in the head using an aerosol can.

Witnesses saw the attack and rushed to the women’s aid, grappling with and restraining Deichman in the process, according to DiPiano.
