Police Charge Spring City Teen After Traffic Stop

SANATOGA PA – A Spring City teen was arrested Monday (March 4, 2013) just before midnight on charges related to intoxicating substances after Lower Pottsgrove Township police stopped the vehicle he was driving, and which carried three other passengers younger than age 21, on South Pleasant View Road.

Justin E. Herbert. 18, was charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana, underage possession of alcohol, and disorderly conduct following the 11:54 p.m. traffic stop at the corner of South Pleasant View and Linfield roads. Sgt. Timothy Walters reported Herbert had been seen “operating the vehicle in an erratic manner on East High Street” while driving his three friends home to the Spring City area.

Walters said the odor of what was alleged to be marijuana was emanating from the car after the stop. Herbert denied any knowledge of marijuana inside, but in a subsequent search of the vehicle police found a baggie with a small amount of the drug concealed in the passenger compartment. A bottle of vodka also was discovered in its trunk, the sergeant wrote.

Herbert is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Justice Edward Kropp Sr. at a later date.
