POTTSTOWN PA – A tax abatement incentive intended to attract a hearse and limousine business to operate from the now-vacant and former 84 Lumber building, 451 Keystone Blvd., was approved Monday night (March 11, 2013) by Pottstown Borough Council in a narrow 4-3 vote, The (Pottstown PA) Mercury reported.
The agreement, if finalized, would allow Heritage Coach Company to pay reduced but gradually increasing percentages of property taxes on the land during the coming decade. But the deal also must be approved in the Pottstown School District, which stands to lose far more tax revenue than the borough, and by the Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. The Board of School Directors plans to discuss the agreement March 25 (Monday), The Mercury said.
