KULPSVILLE PA – The federal income tax filing season for 2013 is finally over, and Montgomery County Treasurer Jason Salus thinks that calls for a party.
Salus will be among the speakers at the “2013 VITA Program End of the Tax Year Celebration” being held Monday afternoon (April 29, 2013) from 4-6 p.m. at the offices of the North Penn United Way, 1715 Sumneytown Pike.
The county Assets Building Coalition is co-sponsoring the event, and will publicly recognize an army of volunteers who this year helped others complete their federal and state tax returns in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) clinics across the county. Among them were residents of greater Pottstown, who staffed clinics held by Family Services at locations in Sanatoga and Eagleville.
VITA saves moderate- and lower-income families thousands of dollars in tax-preparation fees, and that money finds its way back into the local economy, Salus said. The coalition reports 2013 was a record year in terms of VITA program participation. This year’s final results will be announced at the event.
