Local Hearings Continue On Limerick Nuclear Licenses

Hearings On Limerick Nuclear Licenses ContinueFILMING FROM A DISTANT SHORE – A Japanese camera crew was at Sunnybrook Ballroom in Sanatoga on Thursday afternoon (May 23, 2013) to film proceedings of the latest phase of hearings on re-licensing both nuclear power plants at Exelon Corp.’s Limerick Generating Station, according to reporter Evan Brandt of The (Pottstown PA) Mercury newspaper, who took the photo at right and distributed it via Twitter. Thursday’s hearing covered Limerick’s potential environmental impacts; federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission representative Leslie Perkins characterized them as “small,” Brandt Tweeted. Perkins also said Limerick’s new licenses would not be issued, if approved, until the NRC issues a new policy about the storage of spent fuel rods.
