POTTSTOWN PA - A few years ago, the Pottsgrove Middle School Band might have been considered a musical footnote: a little bit small, a lot under-recognized. But the Pottsgrove School District music program has since flourished, its high school marching band is an award-winner, and its middle school feeder isn’t so small anymore. In fact, it’s more than 160 students strong.
Nor so under-recognized, teacher and band leader Kathy Williams reminded the district Board of School Directors during its Tuesday (Sept. 10, 2013) meeting. More than a dozen of her sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students are playing with the high school contingent. Plenty of others show lots of talented promise, and they will quickly follow up the ranks, she said.
To demonstrate their skills, and with no small amount of pride, the band played two rousing numbers at the start of the board’s meeting.
