POTTSTOWN PA – Mental and physical fitness combined Friday (Oct. 18, 2013) at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School on Buchert Road, for what parents and students alike report was a fun-filled Community Day from 10:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. inside and outside the school.
All students in each class of grades 3-5 at the school were assigned to a team of a specific color, Principal Yolanda Williams said, and their job throughout the day was to earn points for the team. The team with the highest score at day’s end was to be declared “Fitness Challenge Winner.”
But, as Williams noted, every participant won as a result of their involvement. There were brain-teasing puzzles to be answered within classrooms, a run down the field carrying a variety of objects, dodge ball matches, a bowling pin challenge, and other games that engaged minds, muscles and spirits.
Although parents weren’t allowed to help their youngsters, they got into the act nonetheless by serving as cheerleaders for their individual students and the teams as a whole, Williams added.
The principal credited all faculty and staff members – particularly organizer Melissa Vishio – and parent volunteers for making the day a success.
