SANATOGA PA – The Sanatoga office of state Rep. Mark Painter, whose district includes the Pottsgroves, Limerick, Pottstown and Royersford, is offering assistance to area residents interested in applying for the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), which helps people pay their heating bills. The application period begins Monday (Nov. 4).
“Keeping your home properly heated is essential for good health and in making sure your pipes do not freeze. Many families, particularly senior citizens on fixed incomes, will struggle to pay the cost of heating their homes over the next several months,” Painter said. “If you received LIHEAP assistance last year, you should have received a renewal application. If not, you may want to check into the program.”
LIHEAP offers cash grants to help purchase home heating fuel to beat the winter chill, and crisis grants for unexpected fuel shortages and necessary furnace purchases or repairs. Grants are based on family size, income, type of heating fuel and heating regions.
Income eligibility starts at $17,235 for one person and increases by $6,030 for each additional family member.
For more information on the program and how to apply, visit with Painter’s staff at 600 Heritage Drive, Suite 102, just off High Street in Sunnybrook Village; or call 610-326-9563 during office hours Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
