Veterans Became 4th Grade Interview Subjects Last Week

POTTSTOWN PA – What’s it like to be in the military? Fourth graders at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School haven’t had any experience like that one, yet, but they certainly know how to ask questions about it.

Lots of questions, nine local veterans quickly learned.

The vets were the school’s special guests last Monday (Nov. 18, 2013) during a Veterans Day’ observance conducted by the fourth-grade class in the Buchert Road building. Teacher Jennifer Thompson worked with students for hours rehearsing a song, titled “Thank You Soldiers,” having invited the veterans in advance. The group also created a video for the occasion.

Learning followed the celebration. Class members became the veterans’ partners for one-on-one interviews, Thompson reported, to hear more of their military service. The program, she added, helped students “understand the importance of Veterans Day.”
