SANATOGA PA – Keith Diener of 1365 Randy Run Dr., Pottstown, has been named by the Lower Pottsgrove Board of Commissioners to succeed attorney Kenneth Picardi as the newest member of the township Zoning Hearing Board.
Diener won’t hold the title “newest” for long, though. Commissioners in January are expected to name an additional zoning board member to succeed Scott Fulmer, who resigned his position effective Dec. 31 (2013).
Diener is a former township constable who also sells real estate with the Keller Williams Realty Group headquartered in Limerick.
Picardi was a long-time member and former chairman of the zoning board who resigned in September because he moved from the township. Commissioners have taken their time in filling his vacancy so they could call for volunteers interested in serving in the unpaid post, and then interview them for the position.
Eight applicants originally signed up as candidates, according to outgoing Manager Rodney Hawthorne. By the time commissioners Stephen Klotz and Bruce Foltz were ready to conduct interviews, however, two applicants had already declined, and of the six remaining only two scheduled meetings, Klotz said Dec. 2 in nominating Diener.
“He knows the real estate business and the market, and he’s willing to put the time and effort into the position,” Klotz said of Diener.
The Zoning Hearing Board consists of three members and an alternate. It conducts legal reviews of requests for variances to township zoning laws; for example, it can grant permission to allow construction of a home on a lot where its side yard may be several feet narrower than what the law allows. It usually meets once a month, or less frequently if no variance requests have been filed.
