POTTSTOWN PA – Pottstown’s sixth annual Polar Bear Club dive into the chilly Schuylkill River, and its accompanying bonfire, will begin Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2014) at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park on College Drive, according to the borough Parks And Recreation Department.
Registration for the Schuylkill plunge runs from 9-10 a.m. at the park, when the bonfire will be lit. The dive is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., followed by a warm-up with hot dogs and sauerkraut (just $2 each) and hot chocolate and coffee ($1).
That’s not the only New Year revelry available.
The Sly Fox Track Club will host a 5-K run from the front of the Sly Fox Brewing Company at noon. Club president and founder Chris Dayless said the $30 online registration for the run ends Dec. 30; those registrants will receive a T-shirt. Registration is also open on race day, but T-shirts may not be available.
The race is for all ages. For racers age 21 and older, however, free beer is offered at the finish line.
