DEMONSTRATING THEIR ABILITIES – A select group of first-grade “Rockin’ Writers” at West Pottsgrove Elementary School in Stowe proved their prowess at handling writing style and punctuation, increasing clarity, spicing up a story with details, and reading with confidence as they put on an education seminar Tuesday night (Jan. 14, 2014) for members of the Pottsgrove Board of School Directors. The children are part of a school-wide pilot program that is introducing a new writing-and-reading curriculum and text book, school Principal Terri Koehler said. She reported many students involved in the new classes had moderately to significantly improved their scores between September and December (2013). “They’re writing a lot more and loving it,” she said of enthusiasm in the pupils guided by teacher Terri Minotto. The kids certainly seemed happy, both to show off their accomplishments and to bask in the spotlight of so many attentive adults at the board table and in the audience.
