SANATOGA PA – Lower Pottsgrove police continue to investigate, but have yet to announce the identification of possible suspects or arrests, in an armed robbery and burglary attempted early Monday morning (Jan. 13, 2014) in the 1200 block of Kepler Road, according to Chief Michael Foltz. No one was reported injured in the incident.
Police also are trying to determine if eight other crimes – three cases of criminal mischief to automobiles, three residential vandalisms, and two attempted thefts from unlocked vehicles – that occurred overnight Monday in the area of Kepler Road and Briarwood Lane are related to the robbery and burglary case.
Patrol units from Lower Pottsgrove, North Hanover, North Coventry, Douglass, Upper Pottsgrove and Upper Providence townships, Pennsylvania State Police from Skippack, and a canine unit from Lower Providence all rushed to the Kepler Road area within minutes of dispatchers’ calls regarding the home attack. Crime scene evidence is still being examined, Foltz said.
The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m., as the home’s owner was awakened by the sound of noise coming from within the property. The male resident entered his kitchen and confronted two other males wearing ski-style masks and rummaging through belongings there. The startled burglars attempted to run through the front door, but one of the pair slipped and fell to the floor while doing so.
The resident tried to grab hold of and stop the fallen burglar, and ended up facing a handgun pulled by his colleague, Foltz’s report stated. The home owner obeyed when told not to intervene and both subjects fled the residence. Despite a intensive hunt and attempts to contain them within a perimeter, the suspects got away.
