Tuesday’s winter storm grew nastier as the day worn on, on highways like U.S. Route 422 at Oaks PA. The same conditions are keeping area schools closed Wednesday
POTTSTOWN – Buildings in the Pottsgrove, Pottstown, and Spring-Ford Area school districts will be closed Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2014), and regular classes and scheduled activities canceled, because weather forecasts call for blowing and drifting snow of up to 12 inches, and extremely cold temperatures.
The closure announcements were issued Tuesday night (Jan. 21). Predictions for “impassable or hazardous road conditions” for busing figured into Pottsgrove’s decision, its announcement said.
Wednesday’s closings, preceded by the mid-day closing of school Tuesday – also due to the snow storm – prompted several changes in Pottsgrove schedules.
- High school science and social studies mid-term exams that had been scheduled for Wednesday will be held Thursday (Jan. 23) instead, Principal Bill Ziegler said via Twitter.
- Make-up exams will be held Monday (Jan. 27), he added.
- High school girls and boys basketball games vs. teams from Pope John Paul II High School, which were to have been played Tuesday, have been re-scheduled, according to Athletic Director Gary DeRenzo. Both have been moved to Feb. 4 (Tuesday), with junior varsity games starting at 6 p.m. and varsity games at 7:30 p.m. The girls teams will play at home; the boys, away at Pope John Paul II in Royersford.
Pottsgrove’s annual Color Day, scheduled for Friday (Jan. 24), will be held as planned, Ziegler said.
