POTTSTOWN PA – There was a conga line, a line dance (a couple of those, actually), a cuddle, a swoon, a dip (yeah, it impressed us too), a fast hop, a stomp, and a bucket full of heavy backbeats Saturday (Feb. 8, 2014) during the Someone Special Dance for girls at Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School on Buchert Road. The Valentine-themed event, organized by the school Parent-Teacher Association was preceded on Friday night (Feb. 7) by a similar dance for the school’s boys and their guests.
At each, it was mostly mothers and fathers who rated as their children’s special someone, and were invited to escort them to what may be the biggest formal social activity of the school year. PTA volunteers thought of almost everything needed to make the nights a success: music presented by DJ Souless (bottom), a literal buffet of fun and tasty snacks, a great setting for photographs, a place to leave coats without having them get lost, and plenty of smiles.
But the dancing (above and below) was THE thing. Escorts generally impressed their kids, who didn’t know they could be so hip, and the students themselves – although pretty wired with excitement – wre nonetheless well-behaved.
