NORRISTOWN PA – Teams of students from Pottsgrove, Spring-Ford Area and Pope John Paul II high schools were among 14 that participated Thursday (Feb. 20, 2014) in the annual Pennsylvania State Academic Competition regional event sponsored by the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit at its offices in Norristown, MCIU Communications Director Kristen Rawlings said.
The competition was won by the academic team from Souderton Area High School. The Spring-Ford team was among the three finalists.
Students answered “difficult questions about literature, American history, contemporary events, world history, and science, Rawlings said.
“All teams are to be congratulated for their preparation, deep knowledge of the categories and content, as well as their sportsmanship,” added Donna Gaffney, MCIU Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Professional Development.
Winning regional teams from across the state will compete May 2 in the competition state finals in Harrisburg. The championship team will receive a $2,000 scholarship for its high school and will have the opportunity to participate in the Panasonic Academic Challenge at Disney World in June.
The Pennsylvania Academic Competition began in 1992.
