LIMERICK PA – Operators at Exelon Nuclear’s Limerick Generating Station took its Unit 1 offline Tuesday night (March 4, 2014) at about 11:30 to repair turbine valves on the non-nuclear side of the plant. Plant personnel will repair and test the valves before placing the unit back in service, spokesperson Dana Melia announced Wednesday March 5) at 10 a.m. via e-mail.
Limerick Unit 2 remains at full power.
The plant was removed from service in accordance with procedure, Melia said. Exelon Generation informed all appropriate federal, state and local government officials. The event presents no threat to public health and safety and will not affect electrical service to customers, Melia added.
