Advanced Band Shows Its Basics To Pottsgrove Directors

POTTSTOWN PA – Get the basics right, Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School music teacher Darryl Weyman knows, and learning more complicated material becomes easier. So it was the basics, the fundamentals of learning and practicing music, that Weyman sought to show off Tuesday (March 11, 2014) to the Pottsgrove Board of School Directors in members of the school’s Advanced Band.

Pitch, rhythm, phrasing and the dynamics of sound all were demonstrated collectively by the 40-member band, and individually by clarinetists Shane Gleason and Ashley Zammetti, saxophonist Rocco Achuff, French horn players Sydney Mowery and Colten DiCriscio, and trumpet players Ethan McHugh and Steve Rinda.

Proud parents packed the cafeteria of the school on Buchert Road to hear their children offer portions of compositions by Beethoven, Hayden, and Weyman himself, as well as a “cool” rendition of The Kingsmen 1963 pop rock favorite, “Louie, Louie.” They closed with a school band standard, “Let’s Go Band!”
