POTTSTOWN PA – It’s turning out to be another big year for music in the Pottsgrove School District, members of the Pottsgrove Music League report.
The highly successful Pottsgrove Jazz Fest, which in February attracted hundreds of listeners and a field of 10 performing bands to Pottsgrove High School, was followed by sold-out performances of “Grease, The Musical” in the Middle School at month’s end. Then, earlier in March, the Pottsgrove High School Concert Choir had the opportunity to rehearse with composer and choral director John Conahan in preparation for its coming tour in London and Paris.
But wait!, as the commercial voice-overs often go; there’s more.
The Indoor Percussion Championships of the Cavalcade of Bands is scheduled to be held at the Middle School, 1351 N. Hanover St., on April 5 (2014; Saturday) from 1-4:15 p.m. It will draw 16 different ensembles from across the eastern half of the state, with some performing compositions written specifically for them.
Pottsgrove High percussionists, who are slated to perform in the championships at 1:54 p.m., have enjoyed their season so far, proud parents and school officials indicated in recent Facebook status updates. They earned first place in a Feb. 22 competition at Father Judge High School in Philadelphia, first place March 1 at Rustin High in West Chester, first place March 8 at Methacton High in Eagleville, and second place March 22 at Pennridge High in Perkasie.
Still ahead for the percussion ensemble are two performances Saturday (March 29) at 1:10 p.m. in Souderton and at 5:59 p.m. in Royersford, followed by the championships.
