Township, Ephrata Police Compare K-Mart Burglaries

Township, Ephrata Police Compare K-Mart BurglariesSANATOGA PA – Police in two jurisdictions are reportedly comparing notes to see if the jewelry burglary Thursday (April 17, 2014) at K-Mart in the Sanatoga Village Center on East High Street may be tied to a similar burglary that occurred last month at another K-Mart 43 miles away in Ephrata PA, according to Allentown television station WFMZ.

In both burglaries, authorities told the station, the stores’ glass jewelry cases were targeted. In both, Lower Pottsgrove Police Chief Michael Foltz added, the perpetrator entered by smashing through a side door, was caught on surveillance video quickly grabbing up the goods, and made a fast exit.

The value of the stolen property was similar too, the station said: estimated at more than $40,000 in each case.

Foltz has suggested, however, that the subject caught on camera in Sanatoga may not have been alone. His investigators believe another person, possibly a get-away driver, also could be involved.

Police are still searching for leads in both cases. Area residents or others who may have information should call the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department at 610-326-1508, or the Ephrata police at 717-738-9200.
