Pottsgrove Girls Trade Basketballs For Flower Bulbs

Pottsgrove Piranhas Trade Basketballs For BulbsOFF THE COURT, THEY’RE VOLUNTEER GARDENERS – Although they’ll play basketball this morning (Saturday, May 17, 2014) at the Twin Valley Tournament in Morgantown PA, members of the Pottsgrove Piranhas fifth grade AAU girls team will head to Spring City PA after their game to work as volunteer gardeners at the Southeastern Veterans Center. Resident Deanna Collins reports most of the 11 girls, all of whom attend Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School, will dig out weeds and plant flowers in the two courtyards inside the center’s newest building, and spruce up the view for its occupants. Local merchants and nurseries are donating the plants. The effort is one of several the team has undertaken during the past year to serve the community, she said. The Piranhas recently won its games at a tournament in Hamburg PA, which qualified it for a spot in a June 13 championship in Kutztown. The team’s head coach is Chris Yaccarino, and he is joined by assistants Chris Simon and George Potts.
