Officer, Pottstown Man Injured In Sunday Accident

20140515-Latest-PoliceCarFlashingLightsPOTTSTOWN PA – A two-car crash Sunday morning (June 8, 2014) that involved a Lower Pottsgrove Police Department patrol cruiser and a vehicle driven by a Pottstown resident resulted in minor injuries to both drivers. An investigation into the accident is continuing.

A department press release said the injured – Ofc. Matthew Meitzler, 38; and John Engle, 34, of Pottstown – were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The extent of their injuries was not described, and as of Tuesday (June 10) at 6 a.m. no update on their conditions was available.

The accident reportedly occurred at about 10:42 a.m. as Meitzler, in a 2012 Dodge Charger, attempted to turn left onto Armand Hammer Boulevard from Industrial Highway. That’s one site of ongoing construction work related to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation refurbishing of the U.S. Route 422 interchange there.

Investigators said Meitzler’s vehicle was struck by a Mercury-brand sedan that Engle was driving south on Armand Hammer. As Engle’s vehicle entered the intersection of Armand Hammer and Industrial, police alleged, his car hit the front end of Meitzler’s cruiser and caused moderate damage.

Both vehicles had to be towed away.
