One of the many sand sculptures on display last weekend in Sea Isle City NJ
SEA ISLE CITY NJ – Limerick Township resident Meg Hunsberger had sand between her toes and a first-place prize in her hands last weekend (June 14 and 15, Saturday and Sunday), as she was named the winner of a sand sculpting contest during the annual Skimmer Festival Weekend hosted by the Division of Tourism in Sea Isle City.
Hunsberger, who lives in Sea Isle City during a portion of the year; her husband, Jeff, and their friends Melissa and Pat Brown of Downingtown PA all were artists who helped create the winning sculpture, according to a tourism press release.
Coming in third place, it added, were cousins Hunter Sgro, 11; Mikey Sgro, 14; and Sean Dodson, 9, all of Pennsburg PA.
Besides the sand-sculpting contest, the festival weekend featured a seaside market with 430 vendors, a food court, and free family activities Saturday; and historical guided trolley tours and an antique auto show with more than 90 vehicles Sunday (Father’s Day). Live music performances also were staged throughout the two-day event.
A bonus, promotes said, was good weather. Both days of the Skimmer Festival were enhanced by sunny skies, cool breezes and temperatures in the mid-70s. It helped attract “tens of thousands of people who enjoyed themselves along Sea Isle City’s ocean-front promenade and at its Excursion Park.
