POTTSTOWN PA – Inside and out Pottsgrove High School, work crews and their equipment have already begun the first phase of the Kauffman Road building’s renovation and expansion. Contractors’ trailers could be seen Thursday (June 26, 2014) on the west side parking lot, backhoes and tractors are parked on what once was the south side basketball court, and mounds of earthen debris are piling up near the southeast entrance.
It’s a busy place, one reflective of reconstruction-related items approved 10 days ago (June 17) by the Board of School Directors. Board members:
- Awarded a contract for construction testing services to Advantage Engineers of West Chester PA, and specified the amount was not to exceed $60,000.
- Agreed to four change orders for the project recommended by the administration at a total cost of $378,176.
Renovation work also is being conducted at Pottsgrove Middle School on North Hanover Street. Directors authorized President Justin Valentine and Secretary Diane Cherico to sign agreements on their behalf with contractors working there specifically Walter Brucker and Co. Inc. of Perkasie PA and MJF Electrical Contracting Inc. of Trevose PA.
Also approved were the purchase of three items using funds from the district capital project budget.
- They included new lamps for fixtures lighting the stadium behind the high school, at a cost of $3,800. Michael Katzenmoyer, director of facilities and physical plants, reported the district would save substantially on the lamps’ installation because it would be handled by its maintenance workers.
- Included as well were new divider curtains for the middle school, at a cost of $10,900.
