Governor Gives Montgomery County A Tourism Boost

GOVERNOR’S VISIT PROMOTES TOURISM, OUTDOORS, EXERCISE – When former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge wanted to get exercise he rode a bicycle, current Gov. Tom Corbett, right, said Sunday (Aug. 17, 2014) during an afternoon visit to Pottstown. Then Corbett paused a beat and added, “but bicycle seats are really narrow and small.” A crowd surrounding Corbett at the Schuylkill River National And State Heritage Area on College Drive began to laugh, as he expected they would, because of the governor’s larger frame. That’s why, the governor explained, he paddled across the river in a kayak to reach the center. Kayaks “have much bigger seats,” he said, and laughed as well in delivering the punch line. The governor’s arrival at the College Drive center and adjacent Riverfront Park was one of several weekend events planned to promote tourism, outdoor activities and exercise across the state. During the visit he met with local business and travel industry leaders, left, and touted Montgomery County and the Valley Forge area as an attractive tourist destination.
