Sixteeen Pottstown Area Students Win Academic Honors

Five Pottstown Area Students Attain Academic HonorsPOTTSTOWN PA – Sixteen area residents have been singled out for academic honors and achievements, as reported this week by their respective colleges and universities.

Two area residents have been named to work as resident assistants (RAs) at Alvernia University in Reading PA for the 2014-15 academic year. They are Samantha Brockway of Sanatoga, a marketing major and graduate of Pottsgrove High School; and Ashley Monzo of Pottstown, a nursing major and also a Pottsgrove grad. RAs are academically successful students who help build strong and healthy residential communities, the university said.

Three “high-achieving, first-year students,” all of whom are Pottsgrove High School graduates, have received scholarships from Lebanon Valley College in Annville PA to begin their Fall 2014 semester, the college reported. They are Ethan Abdalla, majoring in actuarial science; Jeffrey Adams, majoring in biology; and Erinn Dugan, majoring in chemistry.

Sanatoga resident Dana Landes has enrolled at James Madison University in Harrisonburg VA for the Fall 2014 semester, the university said. Landes plans to major in marketing.

Edward Fox of Pottstown was named to the dean’s list at Central Penn College in Summerdale PA for the Spring 2014 term, according to the college. To qualify for the designation, its students must carry six or more credits and earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better for the term. Fox is currently majoring in information technology.

Takashi Fuke of Pottstown was named to the dean’s list at Benedictine College in Atchinson KS for the Spring 2014 semester, the college reported. Its qualifying students must carry a minimum of 12 hours and a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9. Fuke’s parents are of Mr. and Mrs. Yutaka Fuke of Pottstown.

Megan Schmidt, a Pottstown resident and Pottstown High School graduate, has been named to the Spring 2014 semester dean’s list at Lafayette College in Easton PA. To qualify, its students must achieve at least a 3.60 semester grade point average on a scale of 4.0.

Four Pottstown area residents were named to the Spring 2014 semester dean’s list at Albright College in Reading PA. They are Alexandria Argue, a junior; Nathan Fretz, a freshman; Cara Gulick, a sophomore; and Melissa Vettleson, a senior. Albright students must attain at least a 3.75 term grade point average to be named to the list.

Noel Horter of Pottstown has been named to the Spring 2014 dean’s list at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown PA.

Amy Moyer of Pottstown has been named to the Spring 2014 dean’s list at Stevenson University in Owing Mills MD. Its students must be full-time (12 or more credit hours) and maintain an average GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Melissa Cox of Pottstown, a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Florham Campus in Madison NJ, graduated in May (2014) with a master’s degree in Corporate and Organizational Communication.
