POTTSTOWN PA – Softball players who use the field behind Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School on Buchert Road, and those who watch programs or events in its gymnasium both will benefit from purchases authorized Tuesday (Aug. 26, 2104) by Pottsgrove School District directors.
The school board voted unanimously to pay $8,255 to replace fencing, backstops and bleachers that earlier were damaged at the field. Director Rick Rabinowitz said he hoped similar items scheduled to be removed from the Pottsgrove High School grounds as part of its reconstruction could be relocated to Lower, but district Director of Facilities and Physical Plants Michael Katzenmoyer reported they were beyond salvage.
Board members also unanimously approved buying portable stage platforms for use in Lower’s gym at a cost of $9,910.
They were sought by Principal Yolanda Williams because children assembled in the gym – the largest space in the school and the only one capable of holding all its students – had difficulty seeing activities held at floor level. Director John Rossi wondered if similar platforms used by the high school choirs could also be trucked to and raised as needed at Lower; Katzenmoyer said the high school stages were already in regular use there.
The expense for both installations were below budgeted projections, district Business Administrator David Nester said.
