SANATOGA PA – The First Ladies of Rock and Soul, a singers’ tribute to the famous girl groups of the 1960s, return to perform tonight (Saturday, June 6, 2015) beginning at 7 p.m. in Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Rd. Tickets purchased online, if still available, cost $25 per person; they also will be sold at the door for $30.
The First Ladies turn the clock back to a time and place in music history that duplicates the girl groups’ electrifying performances. This is no typical “cover band;” 14 top-notch professional musicians crank out the hits, note for note. Expect the show to include the songs “Do Do Ron Ron,” “Going to the Chapel,” “Be My Baby,” “Stop! In the Name of Love,” “You Keep Me Hanging On,” “Take Me in Your Arms (and Rock Me a Little While),” and others.
Vineland NJ radio personality Lou Costello of WLVT-FM described the First Ladies as “simply fabulous … Every song had the sound and feel of the original,” he said, and added the “bandstand presentation had all believing they were back in the Sixties. A real first-class performance.”
After a heyday of big band music, historic SunnyBrook Ballroom re-opened in 2008 as an entertainment venue through the work of scores of volunteers from the community. The facility’s casual fine dining restaurant and Chummy’s Lounge followed in 2011. The venue is owned and operated by the SunnyBrook Foundation.
