SANATOGA PA – The multi-million dollar renovation of historic Sunnybrook Ballroom, which kicked off Friday morning (June 12, 2015) with a ground-breaking and luncheon for invited guests, will include an “overhaul” of what is being called an outside “wedding garden” to fill the space once occupied by the venue’s members-only former swimming pool, managers said.
The pool had been located on Sunnybrook’s south side. After it was filled in and its accompanying bathhouse razed in July 2010, the foundation that owns Sunnybrook created an open, paved brick space to give the otherwise empty area a courtyard “feel.” It will now become a more fully landscaped and decorated exterior room under construction plans.
The foundation turned over management of Sunnybrook’s operations earlier this year to the Gulati family, owners of Reading PA companies who have successfully transformed other local restaurants and event facilities. Friday’s gathering of politicians, local business leaders, volunteers and others at 50 Sunnybrook Rd. served to re-introduce the management team and offer greater detail on its coming investments.
The revitalization project also includes renovating the existing restaurant and lounge, reconstructing its kitchens, and providing new banquet and meeting space in a 15,000-square-foot, two-level addition with a “Roaring ’20s” theme, foundation President Wil Hallman said. Much of the construction is expected to be completed by mid-October.
SunnyBrook LLC management company President Chuck Gulati declared himself “very excited to kick start the construction process and bring new life back into such an important part of the community’s history.”
