Penn State THON Solicits Your Donations

COLLECTING FUNDS FOR ‘2016 THON’ – Selected college students spread out across Lower Pottsgrove, Pottstown, Limerick and Royersford during the weekend (Friday through Sunday, Sept. 25-27, 2015) with well-labeled collection cans, seeking donations from motorists and shoppers in a launch of the 2016 Penn State THON fund-raiser to fight childhood cancers. Students stood near approved storefronts and intersections to conduct their canister solicitations, more commonly known as “canning.” Some of the funds benefit cancer treatment and research efforts in Montgomery County though the effort’s sole beneficiary, Four Diamonds at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital, according to Media Relations Captain Eisha Misra. THON is the nickname for an annual dance marathon held by students at the university Bryce Jordan Center in State College PA, set for next Feb. 19-21. Last year’s THON raised more than $13 million.
