SANATOGA PA – Just in time for the raking and disposal of fall leaves, Lower Pottsgrove will resume its three-month free collection Monday (Oct. 5, 2015) of yard waste left in approved disposal bags at curbside along township roads.
The current round of collections also include those scheduled for Nov. 2 and Dec. 2, both the first Mondays of the month. The collections will be done by trucks from J.P. Mascaro and Sons Inc. of Audubon PA, the township’s contracted trash hauler, but in pick-ups that are separate from regular garbage removal.
Leaf and yard waste must be packed into approved compostable bags made of brown kraft paper and available for purchase at Home Depot and other retailers within the township. Material packed into plastic trash bags or other containers will not be accepted. Pennsylvania requires organic material such as yard waste to be composted.
Property owners are asked to refrain from putting leaf bags curbside until the Sunday evening before the collection. Those who expect to put out more than 10 bags are asked to call and notify the township at 610-323-0436 so it can alert Mascaro.
Those who won’t have yard waste ready for pick-up Monday can either hold it for the November collection, or dispose of it (not free, but for a fee) at either Arborganic Acres Organic Composting Facility, 901 Cherry Hill Ln., Pottstown, or Hetrick Gardens, 2620 Swamp Pike, Pottstown. For more information, call Arborganic at 484-524-8850, and Hetrick at 610-367-9699.
A similar round of collections are make during the first Mondays of April, May and June.
