Board Likes Pottsgrove Proposed Calendar

Pottsgrove school directors Bill Parker, left, and Jim Lapic share a laugh before Tuesday’s meeting

LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – A proposed calendar for the 2016-2017 academic year in the Pottsgrove School District is expected to be posted within days at the district website, following a review by and satisfactory comments Tuesday (Feb. 23, 2016) from the Board of School Directors.

The calendar anticipates all five Pottsgrove school buildings will open after the Labor Day holiday, giving faculty and staff members a full week to prepare their classrooms, Superintendent Shellie Feola said. That’s in marked contrast to the limited time allotted teachers at the start of this academic year, due to unfinished renovation work at Pottsgrove High School.

Directors, during their meeting in the administration offices on Kauffman Road, also learned that Aug. 25 (2016) is the contractors’ target date for final completion of the three-year renovation project.

Next year’s calendar includes several “snow days” for weather-related closures.

Administrators planned few events other than holiday concerts and sing-alongs for what Feola called the December “festival season” because “there’s just too much else going on then,” she noted.

Directors were generally pleased with the proposal, the second of two calendar options presented to them, and board President Rick Rabinowitz asked that it be posted on the web to encourage “parental feedback.” A vote to approve the calendar is expected from the board during its first meeting in March.
