Annual Police Trout Rodeo Set April 23

“Ewww, Dad, what’s in the other hand?;” a scene from Lower Pottsgrove’s 2014 trout rodeo

SANATOGA PA – Assemble your fishing pole and fill that reel with fresh line: the Lower Pottsgrove Police Department‘s annual Trout Rodeo has been scheduled for April 23 (2016; Saturday) from 8-11 a.m. in a portion of Sprogel’s Run on the grounds of Sunnybrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Rd.

The department and Sunnybrook, which is co-sponsoring the fourth annual event, announced its date Friday (March 11).

The rodeo is geared toward children between the ages of 3 and 14, and is free to the first 50 registered participants. Advance registration is required. Parents can obtain forms at the police department front counter on the north side, lower level, of the township municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd. Completed forms must be returned to the department by no later than April 22 (Friday) at 4 p.m.

Participants must supply their own pole tackle, bait and net. Only one pole and one hook per person are allowed, and artificial lures are prohibited. Parents must accompany those fishing, but are urged not to fish for them. Helping kids bait their hooks, cast a line, or remove a catch is permissible.

The portion of the creek to be fished is carefully netted, monitored and stocked ahead of the derby; ask department Ofc. Rob Diesinger sometime to talk about nights he’s spent mothering the run into shape while rainstorms raged before past rodeos! The catch is limited to five trout per entrant.

Prizes that will be awarded to winners in various categories will be announced on the day of the event.
