SANATOGA PA – A hearing requested by a Lower Pottsgrove police officer regarding what was described last week by members of the township Board of Commissioners as a medically related issue is scheduled to be held March 24 (2016; Thursday) at 6 p.m. in the municipal building, 2199 Buchert Rd.
Little was discussed about the hearing, primarily because it involved a township employee, Ofc. James Kenney.
Because Kenney seeks a determination in what commissioners called a “heart and lung claim,” the hearing must be conducted by what Solicitor Charles Garner said is a “local agency.” The board will act as that agency during the hearing, he noted.
The hearing required approval during the board’s meeting last Monday (March 7) to be publicly advertised, which is how the medical claim came to light. No township official provided any further explanation about the claim or the circumstances surrounding it, although commissioners’ President Bruce Foltz reported the board was “very familiar” with the matter.
It is not yet known if the hearing itself will be open to outsiders. That’s for Kenney to decide, Garner said.
