UPPER POTTSGROVE PA – PECO would be happy to have the Pottsgrove School District as a natural gas customer … so happy, in fact, that it will connect a gas pipeline to Pottsgrove Middle School at no cost, Board of School Directors’ member Robert Lindgren reports.
Lindgren, who chairs the board Operations and Facilities Committee, told his colleagues during the directors’ Nov. 15 (2016; Tuesday) meeting the district advised the utility company it was interested in burning natural gas as fuel for its heating system. The middle school heating plant can use both oil and natural gas; gas, Lindgren added, has been substantially less expensive for some time.
“We want to take advantage of those lower costs,” Lindgren said.
PECO planned to check the adequacy of the system for natural gas use, but Lindgren expressed confidence it would pass. Then the utility will install the pipe without charge and within an existing property easement, he said. The anticipated lower energy prices should be reflected in winter heating bills.
