U.S. 422 Bridge Demolition Next Week In KOP

New bridges for U.S. Route 422 going up across the Schuylkill River, as seen from its banks

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – Bridge demolition is planned next week (Monday through Friday, Jan. 30-Feb. 3) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly on U.S. Route 422 between its Route 363 and First Avenue interchanges, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation urges drivers to be careful as they pass through the area.

Both eastbound and westbound 422 motorists can expect to encounter night-time lane closures there, PennDOT announced Thursday (Jan. 26, 2017), as well as periodic traffic stoppages in both directions after midnight. It advised drivers to allow additional time for travel near the construction area. Backups will occur, it warned.

The contractor’s work schedule depends on the weather, it added.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry U.S. 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road ,and Schuylkill River Trail. Construction began in last February, and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
