West End Firefighters Douse Small Home Blaze

STOWE PA – Volunteers from the West End Fire Company were called to extinguish a small but active fire Thursday (Feb. 2, 2017) at 12:37 p.m. in a home on Lemon Street, West Pottsgrove Township. The blaze was first detected by an owner of the home who opened its basement door “and was met with heavy smoke,” Montgomery County emergency dispatchers reported.

Several other units – from the Phillies, Birdsboro-Union, Amity, and North End fire companies, as well as Goodwill Ambulance – also later arrived on the scene, requested by dispatchers after the heavy smoke was verified in what was described as the 2-1/2 story duplex.

“Crews searched and found (the) hidden fire” in the baseboard of a divided wall on one side of the house, West End later reported on its Facebook page. “Crews extinguished the fire with a garden hose,” then opened up the affected area to learn if its had spread further, it said. Responders said they were satisfied the “fire was held to tiny area of origin. No cause was immediately identified.
