Bridge Demolition Causes More Night Delays

KING OF PRUSSIA PA – East- and west-bound drivers on U.S. Route 422 will encounter night-time lane closures throughout next week, Monday through Friday (Feb. 20-24) from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. between its Route 363 and First Avenue interchanges to continue bridge demolition and sign installation on adjacent Route 23, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced today.

There also may be periodic traffic stoppages scheduled on 422 in both directions after midnight, it added.

PennDOT advised drivers to allow additional time for travel on 422 near the construction area “because backups will occur,” it said. The contractor’s work schedule depends on the weather.

This work is part of the $97.4 million project to build new, wider bridges to improve travel and carry 422 motorists over the Schuylkill River, Norfolk Southern Railroad, South Trooper Road and Schuylkill River Trail. Construction began last February and is scheduled to finish in May 2020.
