Local Fire Companies Win Federal Assist Grant

ASSISTING LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS – Firefighters from the Sanatoga Fire Company (above), as well as those in Pottstown’s Empire Hook & Ladder Co., North End Fire Co. No. 1, and Phillies Fire Company learned they and others will benefit from local Assistance To Firefighters Grants to be distributed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Area Congressman Ryan Costello, at left, personally delivered the news to Sanatoga and the other companies, and thanked volunteers for their efforts. The regional grant will provide resources – such as coats, boots, gloves, and fire-resistant hoods – to help outfit 120 firefighters across greater Pottstown. “This is a huge savings,” the Sanatoga company reported on its Facebook page, “as the cost to outfit one member with new turnout gear exceeds $3,000,” a sum that doesn’t include radios or self-contained breathing apparatus.
