SANATOGA PA – It’s time to get your strawberry on.
The annual Strawberry Festival conducted by the Lower Pottsgrove Historical Society returns today (Saturday, June 10, 2017) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, at the society’s headquarters, the grounds of Sanatoga Chapel at 2341 E. High St.
The society has earned a reputation for serving some of the finest, freshest, juiciest strawberries available, dished up by themselves or with ice cream. It also will offer hot dogs and barbecue sandwiches for lunch. Also available at several booths on the grounds will be fresh flowers and plants, a variety of baked goods, a basket raffle, and musical entertainment.
There’s entertainment, too. Bobby Shantz, former Major League Baseball pitcher for several clubs including the Philadelphia Phillies, will be in attendance to meet and chat with visitors. Shantz was designated as the American League’s most valuable player in 1952.
Also scheduled is a trivia contest with prizes awarded to the top four teams or individuals. The first prize winner will receive six general admission tickets to a Reading Phillies game. Live music during the festival will be provided by Skip n’ Chickie.
Admission to the chapel grounds is free, and so is parking. It’s a pay-as-you-consume event. Proceeds benefit historical society projects and programs.
