First SummerFest Draws Crowd To Sunnybrook

SANATOGA PA – The first, and now likely annual, summer festival on the grounds of historic Sunnybrook Ballroom in Sanatoga attracted hundreds of visitors during an 8-hour period Saturday (July 29, 2017), with free musical performances, fine weather, beer flowing from the taps of Pottstown’s Sly Fox Brewing Company, and hot sandwiches and bites for purchase from Gatsby’s, the venue’s acclaimed restaurant.

Sunnybook SummerFest, which has been planned for months but promoted primarily online through social media, opened at noon and ran through 8 p.m. with music provided by Whiskeyhickon Boys, solo acoustic artist John Valerio, and headliners The Sofa Kings. Games and amusements occupied kids and adults, and plenty of fresh-mowed grass beckoned visitors to stretch out while they reveled in a flowering landscape.

A moon bounce, cornhole games, an art bus, and face painting were a hit with kids who played and laughed across portions of the ballroom’s customized bridal garden. The lush and colorful expanse now occupies the space where Sunnybrook’s swimming pool was once located. It provided plenty of room for families to spread out blankets and enjoy picnic items brought with them, and couples and individuals to set up lawn chairs and soak in a warming but not hot sun, enjoy an accompanying light breeze, and listen to the tunes.
