Pottsgrove Teams’ Gift Benefits Cancer Patients

GETTING THEIR KICKS IN AGAINST CANCER – Pottsgrove School District student athletes, coaches and representatives recently took a tour of the Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center, which benefited this year from a $2,000 donation by Pottsgrove sports teams. To date, Pottsgrove donations to the center amount to more than $8,000, according to district Athletic Director Gary DeRenzo, and are directly used to help its patients with daily living needs. The donations began in 2010 with a special series of annual games involving the Falcons’ boys soccer team, and have since expanded to other teams as well. Joining in the visit, during which center staffers explained patient treatments and techniques, were members of the girls volleyball team and coach Jaime Reinhart; the Falcon football team and Coach Rick Pennypacker; Pottsgrove Booster Club officials Danielle Leach and Stephanie Van Horn; district Superintendent Dr. William Shirk, Pottsgrove school director and cancer survivor Patti Grimm, and DeRenzo.
