LOWER POTTSGROVE PA – Pottsgrove School District buildings were expected to open two hours later than usual Thursday (Dec. 14, 2017) due to weather conditions. The district made the announcement on its website, and in calls and other alerts to students’ homes, at about 5:30 a.m.
Pottstown Borough and the Pottsgrove townships were said to have received between 1 and 2 inches of snow overnight, according to AccuWeather, but colder-than-usual temperatures caused some roadways to freeze and made bus travel more difficult.
The district’s notice represented the first winter weather delay of the academic year. It sent parents to their social media accounts to ask friends about procedures involving delays and local child care services, appropriate dress, and the timing of other school-day events. Families also were reminded to feed their children in advance, because the schools did not serve breakfast on days with delayed openings.
