WEST POTTSGROVE PA – Giving drivers access to westbound U.S. Route 422 with a temporary ramp near its Stowe interchange, while a new ramp was being built, seemed like a good idea to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation eight days ago. Things have changed since, and the temporary ramp is about to disappear.
The interim westbound access, located about a quarter-mile west of the existing interchange, opened to traffic Dec. 13. It will be closed indefinitely beginning tonight (Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017) at 9 p.m. and continuing through Fall 2019 due to “a change in the maintenance and protection of traffic plan,” PennDOT said.
Construction crews tonight also will close and detour 422 west traffic overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for barrier installation, it added. During the overnight closure, drivers will be directed to exit at Route 100 North, and follow 100 north, High Street and Benjamin Franklin Highway to access westbound 422.
An earlier-closed ramp from Grosstown Road at the Stowe interchange to westbound 422 also remains unavailable. Grosstown Road drivers are being directed to take High Street and Benjamin Franklin Highway to access westbound 422.
Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling on Route 100 North near the work area. Backups and delays will occur, PennDOT warned.
