SANATOGA PA – A first-of-its-kind event dubbed as “The Battle On The Border,” which combines sports and entertainment in a friendly cross-town competition between the Pottsgrove and Pottstown school districts, is scheduled for Saturday (Jan. 20, 2018) beginning at 5 p.m. in SunnyBrook Ballroom, 50 Sunnybrook Dr.
The districts’ middle and high school wrestling teams will challenge for a Border Battle trophy in matches held inside SunnyBrook, preceded by performances of their jazz and choral music groups, and including an student art show, and ROTC Color Guard exhibition, a “Mascot Challenge,” and other activities intended to showcase both communities’ student talents.
The battle is being sponsored by SunnyBrook Enterprises and Schuylkill Valley Sports.
SunnyBrook has for decades been a venue for some of the finest performances of big bands and orchestras, as well as social functions that attracted packed crowds, promoters acknowledged. But they added there’s never before been “a joining of athletics and art” such as that anticipated for Saturday.
SunnyBrook’s doors open at 5:15 p.m., with the musical entertainment to begin at 5:30. Middle school wrestling starts at 6 p.m., followed by high school matches at 7. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for students.
